Creating an Adobe ID

  1. Go to Adobe sign-in page.

  2. Click Get an Adobe ID


  3. Fill in the form and write down the email address and the password you chose. Check the box "I have read and agree to the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy", then click Sign up.


Your Adobe ID is the email address you used in the form. Don't forget to write it down, along with the password you chose: you will need this information to configure the software and devices you will be using to read ebooks.

Installing Reader for PC

Reader for PC allows you to open borrowed ebooks and to transfer them to your Sony Reader.

Installing the software

  1. Click here to download Reader for PC.

  2. The installation procedure varies depending on your browser:

    1. In Internet Explorer, click Run in the download bar at the bottom of the page.


    2. In Chrome, choose a location to save the file, then click Save. When the download is complete, click on ReaderInstaller.exe in the download bar at the bottom of the page.


    3. In Firefox, click Save file. When the download is complete, click on the downloads button in the navigation bar, then click on ReaderInstaller.exe.


  3. The installation of Reader for PC will start. Click Run to confirm.

  4. In the country selection window, make sure that Canada is selected, then click Next, then Next again.


  5. Check the box "I accept the terms in the licence agreement", then click Next.


  6. Click Next, then Install.

  7. When the installation is complete, click Finish to close the software installation. Reader for PC will start automatically.

Updating the app

When you first open Reader, it may prompt you to update your software. If so, follow these steps.

  1. In the update window, check the box "I agree to the above" and click Update Now.


  2. Follow the installation instructions. At the very end, click Finish to close the installation program. Reader for PC will start automatically.

Authorize the computer

  1. You now have to authorize your computer to read borrowed books. In the info tab, in the Reader for PC/Mac section, click Authorize.


  2. In the authorization window, type in your Adobe ID and password, then click OK.


Your computer is now authorized to download borrowed ebooks and transfer them to your e-reader.

Borrowing a book

  1. In your device's Internet browser, find the book you want to borrow on Edmonton Public Library.

  2. In the results page or in the book's details page , click Borrow.


  3. On the loan confirmation page, click Download. You may also download this ebook by following the link that was sent to you by email.


    You have 24 hours to download the borrowed ebook. Downloading it on multiple devices is possible, as long as they are all authorized with the same Adobe ID.

  4. Once the book is downloaded, Reader for PC may ask you the following. To open the book in Reader, click Yes.


  5. If Reader doesn't send you the previous message, open the file URLlink.acsm that you just downloaded. By default, it will open in Reader for PC and the book will be added to your library.


  6. You can now read the book in Reader for PC or transfer it to your e-reader.

Transferring a book to your Sony Reader

Connecting your e-reader

  1. Make sure Reader for PC is open.

  2. Connect your Sony Reader to your computer with a USB cable.

  3. The following step varies depending on your Sony Reader's model:

    1. For Sony Reader PRS-T1 (2011 model): When the following screen appears on your e-reader, click Data Transfer Mode.


    2. For the Sony Reader PRS-T2 (2012 model) and PRS-T3 (2013 model): When the following screen appears on your e-reader, click Yes.


Updating the e-reader software

  1. At this stage, Reader might ask you if you want to update the e-reader software. This update is required. Click Update Now in the update window.

  2. Follow the on-screen procedure to update the e-reader software. It will restart during the procedure.

    At one point, the update program will ask you to tap Yes on your Reader's screen. If you don't see the Yes button, disconnect and reconnect the USB cable. The Yes button should now appear.

  3. When the update is complete, your Sony Reader will restart and will be ready for use.

  4. Your device will now be automatically authorized with your Adobe ID and a notification will appear at the top of the screen.


Your Sony Reader is now authorized to read borrowed books. Since the e-reader is authorized with the same Adobe ID as your computer, you can transfer ebooks from your computer and to e-reader.

Transferring books to your e-reader

  1. To transfer borrowed books to your e-reader, simply connect it to your computer with a USB cable and click Yes on your e-reader. The synchronization (the transfer of books from your library to your e-reader) should take place automatically.

    A notification will appear at the top of the screen to let you know how many books have been transferred from your computer to your e-reader.


  2. If the synchronization doesn't start automatically, click on the Sync tab, then on the Sync Now button.


  3. Once the books are transferred to your e-reader, click the eject button in the main menu to safely remove your Sony Reader.


  4. You can now unplug the USB cable from the Sony Reader and your computer and read the books you transferred, wherever you are.

Returning a borrowed book in Reader for PC

  1. In your library, select the book you want to return and click on the button depicting a public library at the bottom of the screen.


  2. In a few minutes, Edmonton Public Library will have processed your return and the borrowed book will disappear from your account.
